Concrete Jungle That Dreams Are Made Of

This morning I booked a plane ticket to New York!!! I've never been to NYC, unless you count a trip I don't remember when I was a toddler, or a layover at JFK when I was fifteen. The city has been tops on my list of places to go just because I'm interested - not to visit family or friends. This is the first time in my life I've had the funds and vacation time to do that kind of travel.

My best friend from college, Emily, volunteered to go with me and even used her own frequent stay points for our hotel. Em and I haven't spent a real stretch of time together in years, so that's great enough in itself, but I can hardly believe I'm actually going to the most famous city in the world!

this will be me

We'll only have two full days in NYC, so I'm not going to attempt to do everything this trip, but I welcome suggestions for must-sees, must-dos, and must-eats! We definitely want to see at least one show (maybe Newsies), and I'm trying to get us Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tickets. I also think the Circle Line tour would be a good way to see a lot of major sights in a short time. I know it's uncool to do really touristy things, but I don't know how you avoid that unless you spend months there. Other than that, I'm pretty open!

  3. I said the following to Joseph yesterday: "For some reason, I really want to go to NYC." It's been on my brain lately! I've been up there 4 times for various reasons and with various groups of people. I have a cousin that lives there who can recommend great "local" restaurants if you want some. You will have so much fun!!

  4. Newsies! Oh I am obsessed and going to NY a second time next month (only $30 bus ticket for me!) to see it again. You will be dazzled. Worth every penny! I wanted to go to the circle line and jimmy Fallon (or at least tour the studios), but I didn't have a chance. My sister and I liked serendipity. Oh NY. Magical.

  5. The Central Library is probably one of my favorite places in New York.. I am a nerd, but it is so peaceful and quiet inside. And the inside is amazing!! And you can walk through it quickly so I would recommend stopping by if you are near it!! NYC is one of my favorite places in the whole world!!!!!!

  7. If you can get Newsies tickets you absolutely should go. It was so so so good. If you're not DEADset on seeing it, you can try for standing-room-only tickets but there's no guarantee you can get it.

Hmn. I can mostly give you restaurant suggestions!

Cafeteria, kind of upscale diner-y; Shake Shack, best burgers and shakes anywhere; Alice's Tea Cup, if you you fancy tea and scones; Cafe Lalu, the cafe from You've Got Mail!
